ANOMALIA 2015 recap

28 August 2015 No Comments

The sixth annual ANOMALIA world education programme, which is systematically focused on young animators, took place on the premises of the unique complex of a former chateau brewery in Litomyšl. Participants in the summer programmes, under the guidance of experienced teachers from world studios, concentrate on the practical development of their artistic skills in the field of professional character 3D animation and cooperating and communicating within teams.

This year’s edition combined practical animation exercises simulating the development of a short story and set team cooperation and directorial leadership and decision-making as conditions. ANOMALIA took a significant step forward this year in the development of specialist education methodology in the field of animation built on simulated cooperation in a team. Participants thereby acquire the kind of invaluable experience they would get at an animation study. We will continue in this successful direction in future. We believe that this perspective on the development of animated film corresponds to the reality of the field.

Our guests from the PIXAR studio, who did not conceal their enthusiasm at being able to teach in a context they are familiar with from their own creative environment, also convinced us of the uniqueness of our approach. Meaning that animated film cannot be taught in isolation without team cooperation and the context of a coherent story. For us this summer’s experience has been a motivational step forward, showing us that we should continue to bring practices from world animation to our country, while also introducing foreign attendees to our practices; this, last but not least, is an undoubted boon to every participant and to Czech animation itself.

The ANOMALIA educational programme received financial support from the Ministry of Culture in 2015.
